    Thought for the day

Do you think it is too late?

When I started studying Egyptology, I was no spring chicken anymore. Someone I know asked what was the point. What would I do when I had graduated and could call myself an Egyptologist? What benefit would that give me (the hint being it should be financial)?

That's when a story came to mind. A wife began studying something and her husband asked her why. "Why would you use five years of your life to study? You'll be 50 when you graduate!"

    To which the wife answered:

"Dear, in five years I will be 50 in any case."

In my Egyptology studies and author career I have met so many people who didn't even know what they wanted to do until their 40's, 50's or even 60's. But when they figured that out, they embarked full speed on the journey to reach their dream. And the thing I have noticed is that they are after fulfilment, not money. They are feeling happy, as a result of following their dream. And some are actually making a decent income too.

I have a good example in my own mother is doing her thesis at the university at the age of 80. So it is never too late to start, if you are enthusiastic about something.

We were at a formal dinner party with my husband and thre were these gorgeous bouquets of roses on the tables. When the event was over, the bouquets were given to the ladies present (it was a Lions Club event, so we really were called ladies). I got these beautiful red roses.

But it was winter, there was frost outside and I knew we wouldn't be heading home immediately. I looked around and saw a familiar face - the daughter of one of the ladies who had been a waitress in the event. I asked if she would like to have the roses. She was happy to take them.

As a memory I have this photograph I took of those red beauties.

    Today's Happiness

Despite the corona pandemic we are allowed to go out here in Finland (as long as we keep our distance). So we went walking into an old oak forest. The sun shone, the birds were singing, it was spring at last. That sure made me happy.

What made you happy today? Send me an email so I can add your little joy to future daily mails to bring happiness to others as well.

The email address for this daily post is happinessjournal@yahoo.com
